Stress Reduction / Relaxation

Meditation and yoga are methods to reduce stress and learn how to consciously release tension at its
source – the mind. This class teaches the art of mindful relaxation. Breathing techniques for those with
disabilities and chronic diseases will be shared to help reduce stress and increase the body’s natural ability
to heal. Prenatal and Postpartum Yoga will also be shared with families interested in this ideal preparation
for childbirth and parenting. Beginners as well as adepts of any yoga discipline are invited to attend.
Wear comfortable clothing and please bring a yoga mat, blanket and cushion(s).

The instructor, Jeannine Parvati Baker, has over 30 years experience in teaching meditation and yoga and
has trained teachers throughout the United States as well as in Canada, Europe, and Australia.

October 23-24
NEW YORK OPEN CENTER Presents
The Art of Birthing Conference
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK

Keynote by Jeannine Parvati Baker
BIRTHKEEPER:
Word Medicine for Those Who Were Born and Are Yet to Be

Jeannine's workshop Prenatal Yoga is on on Saturday, the 23rd.
Her keynote, below, is on the 24th and she will also be on the panel,
"Who Chooses" on Sunday

"Language creates our perception of the world.

When it comes to the art of birthing, we tell ourselves into existence
as parents and grandparents, midwives and doulas, educators and healers -
in the way our culture dictates.

An examination of the power of language
enhances transformation in childbirth management.
"In the beginning was the word, and the word was made flesh"
has new meaning when applied to the perinatal experience.

This presentation will focus on the common words used in obstetrics, childbirth
education, and parenting, deconstructing those terms that no longer serve
the needs of families in the 21st century. A distillation of transformative
words will be suggested for sustaining optimal health from conception
through the journey of parenthood."
